One person was killed and two others were injured Thursday in a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.
New Jersey State Police troopers were called to the southbound lanes in East Windsor Township, Mercer County, around 10:30 a.m.
Police said a Freightliner tractor-trailer, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, a Kenworth semi-trailer, a Ford van, and a Mercedes-Benz car were all traveling south when the semi hit the back of the pickup.
The semi then hit the Mercedes on the side and the F-150 crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer, while one of its rear wheels disconnected and hit the van.
After the crash, the F-150 caught fire and the driver was killed. The driver of the van and Mercedes were also injured, police said.
An investigation of the crash is underway, authorities said.
