A 27-year-old man was killed and 10 other people wounded in a mass shooting at an Atlanta streetcar stop early Monday morning, police said.
Santos Wyatt was identified by police as the deceased victim, local NBC affiliate WXIA reported. An 18-year-old man was in critical condition, and the other nine victims were between ages 18 and 29 and in stable condition, authorities said later Monday.
Cops said they were looking for four suspects — three men and one woman — in connection with the shooting, according to local Fox affiliate WAGA. The suspects have not been publicly identified.
“This department will not rest until we identify who’s responsible and bring those individuals to justice,” Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at a press conference.
Officers responded to the shooting scene around 1:30 a.m., authorities said. The gunfire had erupted in the city’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood on Edgewood Ave., near a popular nightlife area.
Investigators said the suspects approached a group of people at a streetcar stop on Edgewood Ave. and unloaded a hail of bullets, WXIA reported. Officers recovered 34 shell casings from the scene, and police said an unknown number of guns were fired.
The Sweet Auburn shooting was the most violent incident in a weekend of significant gun violence across Atlanta, which left two people dead and 29 wounded, according to WAGA.
“[No incident] has connected [to] the other, other than individuals had guns when they were angry,” Schierbaum said.
