19-year-old wounded in Newark mass shooting dies from injuries

A 19-year-old man wounded in a mass shooting in Newark last weekend has died from his injuries, officials said Sunday.

Masi Rogers died on Thursday, News 12 New Jersey reported. He was listed in critical condition in the immediate aftermath of the Nov. 15 shooting.

Kiyah Mae Scott, 21, and Jordan Garcia, 10, were also killed in the gunfire. Garcia’s 11-year-old brother and 60-year-old Sheppard Miller were wounded in the barrage.

No suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in the case, which prompted an outpouring of grief and anger in the New Jersey city.

“These perpetrators need to turn themselves in immediately — before the sun goes down tonight, would be preferable,” Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said last Monday. “The community is on alert, on lookout, and we will make sure that justice is done.”

Also on Nov.17, cops briefly detained two people after stopping a car connected to the shooting in Newark. However, those people were never publicly identified or charged with any crime.

Surveillance video of the shooting was also released that day, showing two men opening fire on a city street, outside a liquor store. Garcia and his brother were reportedly walking home from a youth football practice when they were shot.
