2 boys, 12 and 13, charged with murder in Texas carjacking

Two juvenile boys were arrested and charged with murder this week after allegedly fatally shooting a man during a carjacking in Texas.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said a family reported their car being stolen from their driveway around 3 a.m. on May 3 in Austin. Less than a half hour later, police received another report of a man being struck by a vehicle near Del Valle Elementary School.

Investigators determined the victim was shot and then hit by the vehicle while attempting to recover his family’s stolen car. The man, identified as 20-year-old Anthony Salas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspects, two boys ages 12 and 13, were arrested on Monday and charged with capital murder by terroristic threat. They’re also accused of breaking into and burglarizing other vehicles in the city during an hours-long crime spree.

Their identities have not been released due to their ages.

Surveillance video shows three suspects, but no information about the third juvenile was released.
