Two brazen crooks armed only with a knife are wanted by the NYPD for a string of robberies at fast food restaurants along E. 233rd St in the Bronx last month — with one Popeyes location being hit twice in one week.
Cops are seeking the public’s help in identifying the masked thieves who raked in over $2,500 cash in their spree, which began on Jan. 13 at a Dunkin’ Donuts on E. 233rd St. near Paulding Ave. in Wakefield.
The two men, both described as having light builds and complexions, stormed into the coffee shop at 10:24 p.m. and approached a 25-year-old man working behind the counter. One robber pulled a knife and swiped roughly $800 cash from the register, while his accomplice acted as a lookout.
The duo ran off headed east on E. 233rd St., cops said.
Less than a week later the pair pounced again about two blocks away, at a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location on E. 233rd St. near Grace Ave. in neighboring Edenwald, cops said.
At 12:26 a.m. on Jan. 19, one thief pulled a knife on a 24-year-old man working the register and stole roughly $1,200, while his accomplice acted as a lookout.
The two took off, running east on Grenada St., cops said.
After a successful first heist at the fried chicken eatery, one of the thieves returned alone to the same Popeyes location at around 9:18 p.m. on Jan. 24. He pulled a knife on a 21-year-old man working at the register and stole about $500 before running off, heading east on E. 233rd St., police said.
The two robbers, pictured in surveillance footage wearing medical masks and blue medical gloves remain on the lam.
Cops said one suspect was last seen wearing a black mask, a multicolored Nickelodeon jacket, blue jeans, black and red sneakers, and a black backpack.
The other was last seen wearing a black jacket, dark-colored jeans, and white sneakers, cops said.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
