Two people were killed and at least six others wounded in a shooting at an unofficial music festival after party in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning, police said.
Authorities identified the dead only as a man and a woman. KABC reported the deceased man was 29-year-old Gregory Derisso.
No suspects have been arrested or publicly identified in the shooting. Among the six wounded victims, at least one was hospitalized in critical condition, police told KTLA.
The shooting occurred at the site of a party advertised on social media as “Way After You Go Hard – Afterparty Day 2,” according to KTLA. The party was piggybacking off the Hard Summer music festival at Hollywood Park, about 9 miles south in Inglewood, but was not officially authorized by festival organizers.
At 11 p.m. Sunday, about two hours before the shooting, police shut down what they described as a “big party” at the location after officers witnessed a person with a gun enter the building. One person at the scene was arrested for possession of a firearm.
But two hours later, cops received a “shots fired” call to the same location. When they arrived, a large crowd was already in the street, KTLA reported.
The male victim was found dead at the scene, while the female victim was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, Los Angeles Police officer Norma Eisenman said.
Hard Summer launched in 2007 and generally skews toward electronic dance and techno artists, but the show includes additional genres as well. Sunday was the second day of the two-day festival, and the headliners were EDM DJ Dom Dolla and French DJ Gesaffelstein.
The festival’s location in Hollywood Park is adjacent to SoFi Stadium, home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.
