Two people were killed and at least three others wounded in a shooting outside a casino in Reno, Nev., on Monday morning.
A suspect was detained after police shot and wounded him at the scene, ABC News reported. The suspected gunman has been identified only as an adult male.
“The suspect’s condition is unknown at this time,” Reno police said in a statement. “There is no known continuing threat to the public.”
The attacker opened fire in the valet area of the Grand Sierra Resort hotel and casino around 7:30 a.m., authorities said. He had been seen pacing in the parking lot for about 45 minutes before opening fire, sources told CNN.
Shortly after the man opened fire, his gun jammed, but he was able to fix the problem and resume shooting, an anonymous law enforcement official told CNN.
While the shooting began in the valet area, it extended into the nearby parking lot, according to local ABC affiliate KOLO. Investigators have not publicly speculated on a motive for the shooting.

“My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong — but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation,” Reno city council member Devon Reese wrote on social media.
The Reno shooting was not the only mass shooting in the U.S. on Monday morning. Around 1:30 a.m. in Atlanta, one person was killed and 10 others wounded when a group of people opened fire outside a streetcar stop in the city.
The Grand Sierra Resort in Reno was also the site of a shooting in 2024, when two men fatally shot another man in his room at the hotel, according to police. The Grand Sierra sits not far from Reno’s airport and with nearly 2,000 rooms is one of the tallest buildings in the city.
