2 killed, 5 wounded in shooting at Indianapolis parking lot

Two people were killed and five others wounded in a mass shooting at an Indianapolis parking lot early Sunday morning, authorities said.

There were six male victims and one female victim, local NBC affiliate WTHR reported. Both deceased victims were adult men, but none have been identified further.

No suspects were named or arrested in connection with the shooting.

The gunfire erupted around 2 a.m. Sunday in a parking lot on Indianapolis’ northwest side, according to local news station WISH. Officers arrived to find two deceased victims and three wounded victims at the scene; two other wounded victims were later identified at area hospitals.

Three of the wounded victims were in critical condition on Sunday afternoon. Any motive for the shooting remained unclear, though police said there was some sort of disturbance prior to the gunfire, WISH reported.

The shooting was part of a violent Saturday night in Indianapolis. Around 6:30 p.m., cops confronted a man inside a McDonald’s on the city’s northeast side, local Fox affiliate WXIN reported. That confrontation led to three bullets being fired inside the crowded restaurant, though no one was struck and the man was arrested.

And around 10:30 p.m., another shooting erupted on the northwest side. Three people were wounded in that shooting and one person of interest was detained, according to WXIN.

“My heart is heavy after the violence the Indianapolis community experienced over the last 24 hours,” Indianapolis Metro Police Chief Chris Bailey said in a statement. “We understand how nights like this can shake our sense of safety, but IMPD remains fully engaged and continues to do our part to keep the neighborhoods safe.”
