Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot while responding to a call in Susquehanna County on Thursday afternoon, Gov. Josh Shapiro said.
Shapiro broke the news before giving a speech at an unrelated press event in Bucks County.
“I want you to know I’ve communicated with [state police leader] Col. [Christopher] Paris. He is on the scene. It is an active situation, and at the conclusion of this event, I plan to head there myself,” Shapiro said.
Both troopers were transported to local hospitals, state police said on social media. Their conditions were not immediately reported.
The shooting occurred on Pennsylvania Route 171, about 5 miles south of the tiny 250-person town of Thompson, according to state police. Parts of the road were blocked off as the scene remained active.
