2 suspects arrested in boardwalk shooting of NJ TikTok creator

Two people, one of them a minor, have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a popular TikTok creator near a Jersey Shore boardwalk in June, officials announced.

The juvenile suspect — who was not identified due to his age — has been hit with counts including murder and a slew of weapons offenses in the shooting death of Chrystofer Whyte, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Monday. The second suspect, Dwayne Exilus, 18, of Woodbridge, is also facing a series of weapons charges as well as a count of hindering related to the deadly gunfire

Whyte, as aspiring social media influencer, had nearly 100,000 followers on TikTok when he was gunned down on the beach at Pier Village on June 12. His last video, a 11-second clip,  was shot on the same Long Branch beach just a few hours before his death. Officers found Whyte suffering from a single gunshot wound “in an area between the shoreline and the boardwalk” around 9 p.m., according to the prosecutor’s office.

Whyte, a recent graduate of Woodbridge High School, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. He was 18 years old.

So far, few other details have been provided regarding the boardwalk bloodshed. According to NJ.com, a fight broke out before the gunfire, but what exactly triggered the tensions remained unclear.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Major Crimes Bureau and the Long Branch Police Department into the matter is ongoing.
