3 friends ID’d as victims in fiery Bethpage car crash

Three 20-year-old men were the victims of a fatal car crash in Bethpage, Long Island on Mother’s Day, Nassau County police confirmed Tuesday.

Police identified Gino Vicale of Seaford, Nicholas Rivera of Glendale, and Vincent Cavaliere of Bethpage as the occupants of the 2022 Dodge Durango that slammed into a tree near Bethpage State Park and burst into flames around 1 a.m. on Sunday as they traveled east on Stymus Avenue.

Police are still investigating what led to the crash, who had been driving and how fast they were going.

Cavaliere was a sophomore at Assumption University in Worcester, Mass., and was a defensive back on the school’s football team. He had also played at Plainedge High School, winning two All-Conference football championships in 2019 and 2021, according to his biography on the university’s athletics website.

Details on Vicale and Rivera were not immediately available on Tuesday, but friends told ABC News that all three had attended Plainedge High School.

A makeshift memorial that had sprung up on Sunday continued to grow Monday, as friends of the three came by to inspect the scene, pay tribute and grieve, News 12 Long Island reported.

Neighbors said over the weekend that the stretch of road, which is often used as a high-speed shortcut between two local highways, is known to be dangerous.
