Three men were charged Monday with the ruthless close-quarters murder of a Long Island man found dead at a homeless camp last month.
Julio Beltran, 39; Brayan Heredia Escobar, 19; and Jhon Lopez Campo, 18, stand accused of second-degree murder in the killing of 39-year-old Condido Guadalupe Saravia Devenites on Feb. 17 in Central Islip, according to Newsday.
Cops said Beltran, Heredia Escobar and Lopez Campo beat, stabbed and strangled Saravia Devenites to death, News 12 Long Island reported. They’re being held without bail.
“I’m happy that they moved on it pretty fast and they found who did it,” Central Islip resident Paul March told the outlet.
Saravia Devenites was not immediately identified after he was found dead Feb. 18 at the camp near the corner of Carleton and Suffolk avenues. His body was discovered in a small “tent-like enclosure” in a wooded area, the Suffolk County Police Department confirmed to the Daily News.
“There was blood inside the enclosure, evidence that it was a murder,” Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer told reporters at the scene. “It’s only about waist-high, a couple of feet long, just a small, little tent.”
Beltran was arrested on Feb. 20, while Heredia Escobar was captured the following day and Lopez Campo was detained on March 1, Newsday reported. Beltran and Heredia Escobar were both homeless, while Lopez Campo was listed with a Central Islip address, according to authorities.
Investigators have not publicly speculated on a motive for the killing.
