Three teenagers were killed and another is in critical condition following a two-car crash in Bucks County, Pa., authorities said Saturday.
The crash occurred in Warrington Township, some 30 miles north of Philadelphia, around 9:30 p.m. Friday, police said.
A preliminary investigation suggests the driver of a Toyota Camry traveling east on Bristol Road lost control of the vehicle while approaching a downward crest on the narrow roadway. The car then crossed into the path of a westbound Ford Explorer.
“It’s a narrow road, so any accident on this road is a shame,” Warrington Township Police Sgt. Kenneth Hawthorn told NBC Philadelphia.
In a Saturday afternoon update, police confirmed that the Toyota had four occupants, three of whom died in the crash: the driver, a 15-year-old boy; the front-seat passenger, an 18-year-old man; and one of the two rear-seat passengers, a 16-year-old boy.
The other passenger, a 14-year-old boy, remains in critical condition at a Philadelphia hospital.
The 18-year-old was identified as Aziz Umidovich Amonov, of Feasterville-Trevose, Pa. The names of the three other victims are “not being released at this time” due to their age, officials said.
According to police, two of the victims attended Neshaminy High School — one a freshman and the other a senior.
Neshaminy School District Superintendent Jason Bowman confirmed the boys’ affiliation with the school in a letter to the community.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the students, as well as to everyone in our school community who is mourning the loss,” Bowman said, adding that counseling services will be available in the coming days.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, who has not been identified, was uninjured, police said.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
