4 men playing dice outside Connecticut home shot ‘ambush-style’

Four men playing dice outside a Connecticut home were wounded in an “ambush-style” shooting, police said Thursday.

The attack occurred Wednesday around 10 p.m. in Hartford when several armed men began shooting at the group. One person with gunshot wounds was unresponsive at the scene and rushed into surgery. Another had a a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police later learned two others with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds went on their own to a hospital.

All four men were later listed in stable condition, Hartford Police Department Lt. Aaron Boisvert said Thursday. The identities of the victims were not released, nor were details about what led up to the shooting. The major crimes division is heading the investigation.

Boisvert said the victims were targeted, but did not say whether there were any suspects.

The scene was “very chaotic” with “multiple fights breaking out in the street. Just chaos everywhere. Officers did a great job, controlling it, located the victims. There’s evidence all over the place,” Boisvert said.

“When people have been cooped up inside, especially in the spring time when the sun finally comes out [there is more crime]. Warmer weather means more people. With temperatures rising, violence tends to rise as well,” he added.
