5 Mother’s Day brunch spots


Being a mom has got to be one of the toughest jobs in the world, Beyond the difficult task of raising humans, being a mom comes with a lot of unpaid domestic labor, often on top of part- or full-time paid jobs. In short, moms deserve to be celebrated, so this Mother’s Day try out one of these New York City restaurants.

Clover Club

Regarded as one of the best cocktail haunts in the city, treat Mom to Clover Club’s Mother’s Day Jazz Brunch. Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra will be playing tunes to accompany as you indulge in Executive Chef Sam Sherman’s brunch dishes like the Clover Benedict (with a base of a cheesy potato cake in lieu of an English muffin) and the fan-favorite fried chicken biscuit.

They’re best known for their cocktails, so try a Shanky’s Flip. It’s a frothy delight made with rum, black Irish whiskey liqueur, cinnamon, egg, cream and Guiness. Or if you want to keep it classic, go for a Bloody Mary, which has an extra kick thanks to the addition of Ancho Verde.

Kobano

Mom deserves a vacation, so give her two destinations in one at Kobano. This Japanese-Brazilian fusion restaurant offers an izakaya-style menu in a fun, lively atmosphere.

On Mother’s Day, they’re offering their bottomless brunch where, for $35 a person, guests can sip on mimosas, Bloody Marys, screwdrivers or sangria, alongside a main dish. Brazilian-inspired offerings include feijoada, a traditional Brazilian black bean stew made with pork, greens and rice, and “ovos no molho,” a poached egg dish in an unctuous tomato sauce served with pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread)/ For a more Japanese route try the crispy rice with crab.

Dinner service is also available, so if you want to indulge in a later meal, try their Branzino Baiano served with cilantro sauce and coconut rice, and the yakitori, which comes in either chicken, eggplant, asparagus, pork or beef.

Yellow Magnolia Café at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

A bouquet of flowers is too typical of a Mother’s Day gift. Instead, dine amongst some of the city’s best floral arrangements at Yellow Magnolia Café at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Set amongst bluebells, peonies, lilacs and more, the Mother’s Day Celebration at Yellow Magnolia Café will have a three-course prix fixe meal available both Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, priced at $72 per adult and $23 per child under the age of 12.

Expect dishes like goat cheese bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes, wild mushroom risotto and spiced lamb flatbread. For dessert, treat yourself to a strawberry rhubarb sundae with vegan vanilla gelato. Kids will have options like cavatappi pasta with arugula pesto and crispy chicken tenders. Reservations are available via Resy.

Madam Ji Ki Shaadi

Madam Ji Ki Shaadi is a restaurant inspired by Indian weddings, taking the traditional post-wedding brunch to a new level. Go big this Mother’s Day with their designated brunch on both May 10 and 11 from 12 p.m.-4 p.m., where all Moms will be treated to a free glass of sparkling wine and a complimentary dessert of Falooda kulfi ice cream topped with crispy noodles, rose syrup and pistachios. Aside from the freebies, enjoy dishes like pav bhaji sliders or crispy amritsari macchi fish and chips.

Cocktails stay flowing with rose and cardamom bellinis and chai espresso martinis, which are fun to sip while listening to Bollywood-inspired music. There are even sections of the restaurant decorated to represent the typical multi-day Indian wedding ceremonies, with optional bindis for all guests.

For the ultimate hidden dining gem, Lindens at the Arlo Soho Hotel is the quintessential Mother’s Day dining destination. From their floral cocktails to their homemade gooey chocolate chip cookies, an afternoon at Lindens feels like eating a homey meal made by Mom, only Mom doesn’t have to do any of the heavy lifting. They’ll be offering both a brunch and dinner special for Mom’s big day out.

From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for $75 a person, enjoy thyme Parker rolls, blueberry muffins, asparagus with a soft-poached egg, polenta with mushrooms and carrot ravioli. Brunch reservations can be made on OpenTable.

For dinner, from 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., for $60 a person, try dishes like grilled branzino, chicken paillard and an oyster sampler. Dinner reservations can be made here.
