BMW driver killed, passenger runs off, after Queens highway crash

A 24-year-old BMW driver was killed in Queens when his luxury car struck a guardrail, veered across three lanes of traffic and flipped onto its roof early Tuesday, but the victim’s passenger ran off from the scene apparently unscathed, police said.

Bishinu Madray-Mootoo was behind the wheel of the 1999 BMW, heading north on the Cross Island Parkway approaching the Bell Blvd. exit in Bay Terrace around 2:30 a.m. when he lost control of the car, cops said.

The BMW bounced off a guardrail on the east side of the highway, then skidded across three lanes of traffic before slamming into a concrete median and overturning onto its roof.

Madray-Mootoo’s passenger was spotted crawling out of the wreck and running off. The passenger hadn’t been located by Tuesday afternoon.

EMS rushed the driver to North Shore University Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved. Madray-Mootoo lived in South Richmond Hill, Queens, about 10 miles from where the fatal crash took place.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad was trying to determine what sparked the crash Tuesday.
