President Trump has revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris just ahead of the upcoming book tour for her memoir, “107 Days,” according to reports.
“The Vice President is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety,” a senior adviser told NBC News.
Congress passed legislation in 2008 that authorized the Secret Service to protect former vice presidents, their spouses and their children under 16 years old for up to six months after the vice president’s term has ended.” Prior to leaving officer, former President Joe Biden signed an executive memorandum extending that to 18 months, leaving Harris with protection into July 2026.
Instead, protective services for Harris, who was Trump’s Democratic opponent in the 2024 election, will be terminated on Monday. The decision comes as the former VP is gearing up to embark on a book tour across 15 cities and three countries for her memoir, which recounts her unsuccessful presidential run.
“107 Days” is set to go on sale Sept. 23, with Harris starting her book tour the next day in New York City.
The former Vice President is the latest on a list of people that have seen their protective details canceled by the Trump administration. They include Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton and Biden’s two adult children, Hunter and Ashley.
Federal law, meanwhile, requires the Secret Service offer protection to former presidents and their spouses for the rest of their lives unless they opt out of it. The agency is also permitted to protect former presidents’ children until age 16
