Labor Day weekend in the New York City metro area is expected to bring sunny skies and milder temperatures — a reminder that fall is just around the corner — according to the National Weather Service in New York
Even though fall won’t officially begin for another three weeks, the unofficial end of summer is expected to give the Big Apple a brief preview of the changing season, forecasters said.
While scattered thunderstorms are still possible for areas of Southeastern Connecticut and Eastern Long Island on Friday after 2 p.m., the remainder of the holiday weekend is expected to deliver “plenty of sunshine, nice temperatures, and dry weather,” the NWS said in a Friday morning update. “Perfect for family outings!”
Temperatures in Central Park are expected to remain mild throughout the weekend, with overnight lows in the upper 50s to low 60s and daytime highs topping out in the upper 70s — more typical of mid-to-late September.
While Friday afternoon carries a 20 percent chance of rain, skies are expected to clear later, with a high near 75 and west winds of 9 to 13 mph. Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 60 and northwest winds near 11 mph.
Saturday will be sunny and pleasant, with low humidity, a high around 73 and northwest winds near 9 mph, followed by a mostly clear Saturday night with a low near 61.
Temperatures rise slightly on Sunday, with more sunshine, a high near 76, and northeast winds around 7 mph. Sunday night will be partly cloudy, with a low near 64.
Labor Day is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 74, before the temperature drops to around 64 overnight, forecasters said.
