Anarchy in the USA will have to wait.
The Sex Pistols have postponed their North American tour after guitarist Steve Jones broke his wrist.
In a joint Instagram statement, the English punk rock band wrote: “We have some unfortunate news to share about our upcoming North and South American performances. We’ll let Steve explain what’s going on:”
Jones, 70, shared, “I’ve got some good news and bad news. What do you want first? Okay, the bad news: I’ve broken my wrist, so unfortunately we won’t be doing any shows for a while.”
The musician added, “The good news is the surgeon said I will be back playing guitar in the not-too-distant future. The other good news is I’ll be 70 tomorrow! God bless, and God save the wrist.”
The band concluded their message: “The performances will be postponed and rescheduled when Steve has fully recovered. Please check local venue websites and our social media for more information. We appreciate your understanding and support.”
Fans quickly shared their well wishes for Jones’ recovery in the comments section.
“Bummed about your wrist, bummed about the shows, but happy birthday anyway! 🎸,” one follower wrote, while a second chimed in, “It’s your Birthday so I know you’ll get lotsa love. You’re a strong guy and will make the best of it ❤️.”
Sex Pistols Featuring Frank Carter were due to kick off their tour on September 16 in Dallas, and run until October 17 in Las Vegas.
Before heading to North America, they were also set to perform in South America, including shows in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.
Along with Jones, the band currently features original members Glen Matlock on the bass, Paul Cook on the drums and singer Frank Carter.
Sex Pistols were formed in London in 1975, and at the time John Lydon, who went by Johnny Rotten, was their lead vocalist. Sid Vicious was their second bassist before his death in 1979.
After the Pistols’ 1978 US tour, Lydon, 69, quit the band. He publicly announced his departure while on stage.
However, Lydon came back when the Sex Pistols reunited in 1996. The band played concerts throughout the 2000s and went on tour again in 2002 and 2007.
When the Pistols came back in 2018, Lydon was not a part of it.
In May, the rocker made headlines after his controversial take on The Rolling Stones.
“By all means, The Rolling Stones should retire,” Lydon said on “Good Morning Britain” at the time.
He quipped: “I’ve offended music lovers.”
Lydon also said he doesn’t put himself in the same category as the Stones, with Mick Jagger, 82, Keith Richards, 81, and Ronnie Wood, 78.
“I’m not short of a song idea or two, so there’s a difference,” the music icon jabbed.
Lydon also walked back his previous sentiments that he would never tour again.
“That’s dementia for you, I forgot that bit,” he said.
“As I indicated before, if I just sat back and retired, that’s not me. I’m not that kind of person.”
