A 30-year-old New Jersey man who drowned in Pennsylvania’s Delaware River during a family picnic has been identified.
Fausto Berrezueta Morquecho, of Parsippany, was swimming with family in the Delaware River Water Gap National Recreation Area in Bushkill on Tuesday around 4:10 p.m. when he tired while trying to swim across the river — and went under the surface.
“National Park Service rangers and dive team members, New Jersey State Police, and water rescue teams from Portland (PA) Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call,” the NPS said in a news release.
His body was recovered in water that was approximately 17 feet deep. It is unclear what swimming conditions were at the time.
“All river users [should] wear a properly-fitted, US Coast Guard-approved life jacket while swimming, floating, fishing, or boating on the Delaware River,” the NPS said.
