With President Trump scheduled to attend Thursday night’s game in the Bronx, the Yankees are introducing enhanced security measures.
As such, the Yankees laid out a series of guidelines for fans who plan to attend the series finale against the Detroit Tigers.
“Ticketed guests are strongly urged to arrive as early as possible and should budget extra time for entry,” the Yankees said in an announcement Wednesday night.
“Given anticipated street closures (for vehicles and pedestrians) and limited parking in the area around Yankee Stadium, guests should use mass transportation if at all possible.”
Thursday marks the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, and the Yankees plan to honor victims and heroes during a ceremony before the game. The White House confirmed earlier in the week that Trump planned to attend.
Yankee Stadium is set to open its gates Thursday at 4 p.m. — more than three hours before the scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Typically, Yankee Stadium opens its gates 90 minutes before the scheduled start time.
The Yankees are limiting each guest to one “clutch-type” bag that’s no bigger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
“Guests should make every effort to restrict personal items to an absolute minimum. Any such items should be able to fit in a pocket,” the Yankees said.
“All bags, personal items and their contents will be inspected before being permitted into Yankee Stadium.”
The Yankees listed laptops, tablets, bottles, cans, liquids and empty, reusable water bottles as prohibited items and said there is nowhere inside the stadium to store them.
“Guests should expect that typically accessible areas inside and outside Yankee Stadium may become restricted spaces before, during or after the game,” the announcement reads.
The announcement comes less than a week after Trump attended Sunday’s men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the U.S. Open in Queens, which started a half an hour later than scheduled due to additional security measures.
Many fans endured long lines and extensive wait times to get into Arthur Ashe Stadium that day as a result of the extra precautions.
Thursday’s additional security is set to come a day after Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and prominent Trump ally, was shot and killed at Utah Valley University. Trump mourned Kirk on social media, while the Yankees held a moment of silence before Wednesday’s game.
