Teen killed, 5 wounded in shooting at Tampa apartment complex

A 17-year-old boy was killed, and five more people were wounded in a shooting at an apartment complex in Tampa early Thursday morning, police said.

The victims have not been publicly identified, and no suspects have been named or arrested, according to authorities.

Cops responded to the scene around 1 a.m. Thursday at Crown Pointe Apartments north of downtown, Tampa police said in a press release. They found the 17-year-old boy in critical condition, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

All five other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, cops said. They were identified only as two 19-year-old men, two 21-year-old men and a 22-year-old man.

“No family should have to endure this kind of pain,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said. “Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this senseless gun violence. This will not be tolerated in our city.”

Investigators said the shooting was sparked by a “previous dispute” and described it as an “isolated incident” with no further threat to the community.

“Our detectives are working diligently to identify and bring those responsible to justice,” Bercaw said. “If you saw something, heard something or know something, come forward. Your information could be the key to giving these families the justice they deserve.”

Thursday morning’s shooting in Tampa is one of more than 300 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2025, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
