Owen Cooper made history at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards as the youngest male ever to win for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
In his acceptance speech, the 15-year-old expressed his gratitude and shared a portion of his journey.
“A couple years back I didn’t expect to be in the United States, let alone here. Tonight proves if you listen, you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing three years ago. I’m here now.”
Cooper continued, “If you step out of your comfort zone, who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible.”
The “Adolescence” star took home the award for his role as Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old accused of murdering his classmate on the Netflix series.
Before this year’s ceremony, Jharrel Jerome was the youngest at the age of 21 for his role in Netflix’s “When They See Us.”
“Adolescence” is based on real events, which include a series of recent stabbings.
