Kristin Davis was surprised by ‘And Just Like That’ cancelation

Kristin Davis “definitely … didn’t know” that “And Just Like That…” would be taking its final bow last month.

The 60-year-old Emmy nominee — who played Charlotte York on both “Sex and the City” and its oft-derided spinoff — confirmed on “The Drew Barrymore Show” this week that it’s “definitely true” she “didn’t know” the HBO Max show was ending.

“The commitment we had made was a three-year commitment to each other. So we knew that part,” Davis said of costars Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon, who played Carrie Bradshaw and Miranda Hobbes, respectively. “But I just assumed we were gonna keep going. It’s just… That’s how I am.”

Showrunner and writer Michael Patrick King announced at the start of August, amid the show’s third season — its highest-rated — that “And Just Like That” would conclude with an episode extension and two-part finale.

“While I was writing the last episode … it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop,” said King. “I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season.”

King, who also helmed the finale, then told Variety that the “Sex and the City” book “is closed. Because I care so much about what we’ve done. … I never thought once about continuing.”

Famous last words for someone who adapted the beloved “Sex and the City” for the big screen in 2008 and 2010 — in two widely panned iterations — and deigned to make “And Just Like That” without the involvement of Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.

“We don’t just want to do it. We want to do it well, or do it when there’s something kind of dangerous and exciting to say,” King, 70, said of deciding to end “And Just Like That…,” much like “Sex and the City,” before it.
