No holiday season is complete without visits from Jolly Old Saint Nick, Trey, Jon, Mike and Page.
Like clockwork, Phish announced they’ll headline four back-to-back-to-back-to-back New Year’s Eve shows at NYC’s Madison Square Garden from Sunday, Dec. 28 through Wednesday, Dec. 31.
This quartet of gigs will be the jam band’s 88th, 89th, 90th and 91st (!) MSG concerts putting them in second behind Billy Joel (and ahead of Elton John) for most shows by any act at the legendary venue.
According to Set List FM, the sonically-adventurous group delivered a three-act, 29-song set complete with an encore last Dec. 31. They closed the evening with “Grind,” “Icculus” and “Tweezer Reprise.”
However, that barely scratches the surface of what went down that night to ring in 2025.
“…it was the third set where Phish truly demonstrated why their New Year’s Eve shows have become the stuff of legend,” The Guardian wrote in an ebullient review of the one-of-a-kind performance. “Emerging in matching blue jumpsuits – with the drummer in his customary doughnut-patterned muumuu – the band signaled that the midnight gag, a tradition fans eagerly anticipate each year, was about to unfold.”
They continued “a fractured face sculpture slowly lowered from the ceiling, while dancers in flowing yellow robes, dubbed “conjurors of thunder”, performed an otherworldly choreography. As the countdown to midnight reached its climax, the face came together, the dancers shed their robes to reveal glowing, rave-ready accessories, and the band launched into a euphoric rendition of Auld Lang Syne as the confetti fell.”
More recently, the group returned to New York and headlined at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium and Saratoga Springs’ Performing Arts Center this past July. And, they’re still going at the time of publication. As of now, they have four more concerts in Alpharetta, GA and Hampton, VA on their 2025 summer run.
Fans Phans can purchase tickets for all upcoming Phish shows on sites like Vivid Seats; the official on-sale for their four MSG NYE concerts is Friday, Sept. 26.
Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Phish new music
On July 12, 2024, Phish dropped their 16th studio album “Evolve.”
Over a dozen tracks, as expected, the band completely surprises. No two songs are alike here; their only connection is the cosmically in-sync ensemble.
Personally, we were most taken with the slinky, bass-y, mysterious “Hey Stranger,” upbeat toe-tapper “A Wave Of Hope” and slow burn of “Monsters.”
Be sure to try the restrained Beatles-esque “Valdese,” too. It’s impossible not to crack a smile while listening.

What’s it like to see Phish live
In December 2023, the New York Post spoke with comedian and Phan Max Fine about what it’s like to attend a Phish concert.
“It’s not like anything you’ve ever seen because it’s never happened before,” he explained.
“Every show is special and unique because they don’t plan for it. You get to be whoever you want at a Phish show.”
