Gary Busey was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to criminal sexual contact at a 2022 horror movie convention in southwest New Jersey.
At least three women accused Busey of misconduct at the Monster-Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill. He admitted to touching one woman’s buttocks “over clothing” during a photo op that lasted around 10 seconds.
Three additional charges against the 81-year-old actor were dismissed in exchange for his agreement to take responsibility in July.
He attended his sentencing virtually from his home in California and remained silent during the hearing.
The Texas native’s long resume is highlighted by his starring role in the 1978 film “The Buddy Holly Story,” for which he received an Oscar nomination. Busey also appeared in the 1976 version of “A Star is Born,” followed by hit films “Lethal Weapon,” “Point Break” and “Under Siege.”
Busey appeared on the reality TV game show “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2013, where he was “fired” by the show’s star, Donald Trump. But that didn’t stop him from endorsing Trump in the 2016 presidential election, calling him “a great guy,” according to The Hill.
In 1988, Busey was seriously injured in a California motorcycle crash in which he wasn’t wearing a helmet. The near-fatal accident fractured his skull and left him with permanent brain damage.
