Kitten dead after being thrown from car on Long Island

One kitten was killed and another was injured after being tossed from a moving car in Long Island.

The Suffolk County Police Department is asking for help identifying the motorist suspected of leaving the cats to die on the Montauk Highway passing west through West Babylon.

Both kittens were tossed from a sedan on June 17 around 9 a.m., according authorities. Police said one of the animals was run over by a passing car and killed. The other is being treated for its injuries by veterinarians.

A cash reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and detectives from the District Attorney’s Office Biological, Environmental and Animal Safety Team are involved in the investigation. Police told the Daily News the new alert was issued because investigators are hoping for fresh leads.

A photo of one of the cats was included in a notice posted to Facebook.

Suspects convicted of felony aggravated cruelty to an animal can spend up to two years in prison.
