English singer-songwriter Morrissey has pulled the plug on two New England shows, citing a “credible threat” on his life.
The 66-year-old performer was set to headline solo concerts at Connecticut’s Foxwoods Resort Casino on Friday night and Boston’s MGM Music Hall on Saturday, but instead canceled both gigs at the last minute.
The cancellation was announced on Morrissey’s Facebook page on Friday. (Facebook)
“In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life,” his reps said in a statement on social media Friday afternoon. “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s engagement at Foxwoods has been canceled.”
In a subsequent message, his reps confirmed the Boston show had also been called off, saying tickets would be automatically refunded.
The cancellations come roughly two weeks after Morrissey received a death threat ahead of his scheduled performance at the CityFolk Festival in Canada.
On Sept. 4, a 26-year-old Ottawa man, identified as Noah Castellano, allegedly wrote on social media about wanting to kill the former frontman of The Smiths.
According to court documents cited by the Ottawa Citizen, Castellano was behind a Bluesky post addressed to Morrissey, which read: “When you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”
Despite the threat, Morrissey’s Ottawa concert went ahead as planned. Castellano, meanwhile, was arrested last Friday and charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
Castellano has since been released from police custody on $5,000 bail and the condition that he live at his father’s home near Washington, D.C.
It’s unclear if Friday’s cancellations were connected to the Castellano incident, or if additional threats were made.
Morrissey is currently on a world tour, most recently performing at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday. He’s scheduled to stop in Philadelphia next Tuesday, with more shows across the country before heading to Mexico in late October.
