Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s separation is said to have been subtly hinted at in a cryptic Instagram post months ago.
After news broke that the “Babygirl” star and country hitmaker are separating after nearly 20 years of marriage on Monday, eagle-eyed followed suspected there was trouble in paradise earlier this year.
Back in June, Kidman celebrated the pair’s milestone wedding anniversary with a touching tribute on Instagram.
Posting a black-and-white image of the duo cuddling in what appeared to be a dressing room, the “Eyes Wide Shut” actress captioned the sweet snap, “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️.”
However, alarm bells seemingly rang when the “Somewhere In My Car” hitmaker failed to share a loving tribute to his wife on social media, instead choosing to leave a heart emoji in the comments section of Kidman’s post.
The move could be seen as out of character for Urban, who had often expressed his love for Kidman online, especially on their anniversaries in years past.
Urban’s last Instagram post with Kidman was shared on May 9, when he uploaded photos of them at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
And in June 2024, the country crooner marked the couple’s 18th anniversary by declaring that his love for Kidman was “forever” alongside a sweet snap of the pair.
Shortly after news of their split came to light Monday, insiders claimed that the pair has been living separately “since the beginning of summer.”
“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” a source told Page Six, adding that the Oscar winner did not want to split and tried saving their relationship.
The “Big Little Lies” actress, 58, and Urban, 57, are already living apart, as “Keith has acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home,” additional sources told TMZ.
Insiders further claimed that Kidman had been taking care of the pair’s two children daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, all while “holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone.”
It’s believed that Urban was the one who had initiated the split, though it’s not clear if the couple is planning on divorcing.
Kidman “did not want the separation and was trying to save things,” a source added.
The pair tied the knot on June 25, 2006 after meeting at the G’Day USA gala in January 2005.
Their last joint public appearance took place just a few short months before news of their split, with the couple stepping out at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, held at the Geodis Park stadium in Nashville, Tenn., on June 20.
Weeks later, Urban made headlines when an interview was abruptly cut short after they asked about his wife’s intimate scenes with Zac Efron in their 2024 flick, “A Family Affair.”
What’s more, a source close to the former couple told People that their split “really hasn’t been a secret” to their inner circle.
“People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable,” an insider told the outlet, adding that the duo have “been living separately for a while now.”
Another source told the outlet that Kidman is leaning on her family for support amid her breakup from the former “American Idol” judge.
“Nicole’s sister has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” the source said.
