Second victim in Dallas ICE detention center shooting dies

Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, a detainee critically wounded in a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Facility in Dallas last week, has died, according to his family.

The League of United Latin American Citizens on Tuesday confirmed 32-year-old Garcia-Hernandez died from his injuries after he was removed from life support. An ICE spokesperson told NBC News he “died at 12:48 a.m. CT Monday.”

“My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family,” his wife, Stephany Gauffeny, said in a statement released by the civil rights group.

“We had just bought our first home together, and he worked hard every single day to make sure our children had what they needed,” she continued. “His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered. I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone.”

García-Hernández, who was from Mexico, leaves behind his wife and four children, with a fifth on the way. He was one of three detainees shot at a Dallas ICE facility on Sept. 24. Police said the gunman, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, perched himself on a nearby roof top and opened fire.

Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes — a 37-year-old from El Salvador who entered the country illegally —  was also fatally shot in the attack, while a third detainee, identified by NBC News as Jose Andres Bordones-Molina of Venezuela, was left wounded. His condition was not clear.

No ICE personnel were hurt in the shooting, but authorities have said Jahn’s attack was motivated by his hatred for the government and that he wanted to spark chaos by killing federal agents. He was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the shooting.
