Minnesota best man arrested after wedding guest is shot in both legs

The best man at a wedding in Minnesota over the weekend was arrested for allegedly shooting a fellow wedding guest in both legs, officials said Thursday.

Stephan James, 34, of South St. Paul, was arrested Wednesday afternoon while sitting in the passenger seat of a pickup truck parked on the 500 block of Kent Street in St. Paul, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

James is believed to have shot at another man during an argument at Keller Regional Park in Maplewood — where more than 100 people had gathered to celebrate a wedding — shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

The suspect fled the scene but was located Wednesday shortly after 5 p.m.

Deputies blocked the truck, removed both occupants and arrested the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office. They also recovered two guns from the vehicle, one of which was reportedly stolen, officials said.

James was booked into the Ramsey County jail, where he awaits charges.

It was unclear on Thursday what prompted the argument.

Maplewood is located about 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul.
