Teen charged in fatal stabbing of woman in Vineland, NJ home

A 17-year-old has been arrested after a woman was found fatally stabbed inside a South Jersey home on Friday morning.

Officers with the Vineland Police Department responded to the residence on Union Road just after 4 a.m., according to a statement from the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. Upon arrival, they found Christina Asselta suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Despite efforts to render lifesaving aid, Asselta succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene, prosecutors said. She was 38 years old.

During the subsequent investigation, authorities were able to identify a 17-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody on the scene without incident. He’s facing murder charges and additional weapons related offenses, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The teen suspect has not been identified due to his age, but investigators said it appears that he knew Asselta. Authorities also noted they believed this to be an isolated incident, adding that there’s no ongoing threat to the community.

No further details had been provided as of Saturday, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing. Anyone with information in the case has been asked to contact the Vineland Police Department or the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office. Tips may also be submitted anonymously.
