WASHINGTON — President Trump wants his 20-point Gaza peace plan implemented “quickly” as his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner lead “technical talks” in Egypt.
“We want to move very quickly on this and the president wants to see the hostages released as soon as possible,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing Monday — after Hamas on Friday tentatively agreed to the framework.
“The president believes peace is possible in Gaza and that’s why he presented this detailed and comprehensive plan, the first step of that is securing a cease-fire and releasing the hostages,” she said.
Leavitt said that subsequently “ensuring a durable and lasting peace” will require “security guarantees” and “good governance.”
