The late comedian Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda is begging fans to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her father.
The “Good Will Hunting” star’s only daughter took to Instagram to express her disapproval of the AI-generated tributes to her dad.
“Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad,” Zelda shared on her Instagram Story. “Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on.”
The 36-year-old also stressed that her father, who died by suicide in 2014, would not have approved of the videos.
“If you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop,” she added. “It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want.”
The “Lisa Frankenstein” director went on to describe AI generated videos as “disgusting” and “gross,” while denouncing the growing social media trend of creating clips of deceased celebrities.
“You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music,” she wrote. “And then shoving them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.”
She continued to criticize AI in general, calling AI-generated content “just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be re-consumed.”
This isn’t the first time the filmmaker has spoken out against the use of AI. During the SAG-AFTRA strike in October of 2023, Williams shared her concerns about it replacing voices of actors, including her late father’s.
“I am not an impartial voice in SAG’s fight against AI,” she wrote on her Instagram at the time. “I’ve witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/recreate actors who cannot consent, like Dad.”
