A Philadelphia man accused of breaking into a Bucks County home and attacking a woman early Tuesday was tracked down by a pair of stolen AirPods, authorities said.
Police were called to a home in Upper Southampton Township around 2:45 a.m. for a burglary in progress. After they arrived, police learned the suspect fled when he was confronted by residents. A knife and extension cord, both of which were from the home, were recovered in one of the bedrooms.
One of the victims, a 25-year-old woman, told police she woke up to a man pinning her down on her bed. After she screamed, the suspect ran into the hallway and encountered the woman’s mother.
“To have the presence of mind and the wherewithal to know to scream and fight with every fiber of her being, and then for her mom to physically intervene and grapple with this intruder,” Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said during a news conference Thursday afternoon.
One of the victims used the “Find My” iPhone feature to locate her stolen AirPods, which led police to Philadelphia, about 25 miles south, where local law enforcement found a black 2014 Kia Forte matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle.
The AirPods and the suspect, who was identified as 33-year-old Nafis Fisher, were inside the car with other stolen items, including the victim’s passport and wallet.
He was taken into custody and transferred to the Upper Southampton Township Police Department.
Fisher was charged with burglary, theft, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, simple assault and other related offenses. He remains in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility after being unable to post bail.
Officials said the motive behind the break-in remains unknown.
“He was a stranger to this family, that we know with certainty,” Schorn said.
