White powder sent to NYC Board of Elections office; at least 8 workers exposed

At least eight people were exposed to a mysterious white powder Friday afternoon at a New York City Board of Elections facility in Manhattan, police sources said.

First responders rushed to the location, at 450 W. 33rd St. in Midtown, around 2:40 p.m., where workers counting mail-in ballots were exposed to the substance, which was inside an envelope.

Heavily armed NYPD Emergency Service Unit officers responded to the scene and established a safe perimeter, cops said.

The nature of the powder and whether it was toxic were being investigated. However, no injuries were reported, cops said.

According to a lease for the space, the facility is used to store Manhattan’s voting machines, voter registration forms and other election materials.
