He subtly honored the “First Wives Club” icon by wearing two silver cross necklaces, paying tribute to Diane’s signature “devoted nun” style. The look, which she introduced in the 1990s, involved wearing multiple crosses layered together.

Diane adopted her son Duke and daughter, Dexter, 29, in her 50s and raised them as a single mother.

“Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist,” she once told Ladies Home Journal. “It was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in.”

In 2005, Diane told Life Magazine: “The shocking thing is that I worry differently now. Before kids, if I worried, it was only about myself, but that’s all you do is worry as a parent. It’s rule number one in parenting: secretly worry without letting the kids know you’re worried.”

Diane’s children have largely stayed out of the spotlight over the years, though they did make a rare public appearance at Diane’s Hand & Footprint Ceremony in LA in Aug. 2022.

At the event, Diane was asked what it meant to have her kids there, and she replied: “Everything. I love them.”

The “Father of the Bride” actress also said during the ceremony of her children, “They have no interest in what I do, which I think is very healthy. We live a relatively normal — well, sort of normal — life.”

Diane died Saturday in California, her family confirmed. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

The Oscar winner’s health allegedly “declined very suddenly” in the last few months.

“It was so unexpected,” Diane’s friend recently told People, “especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”

Songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, a longtime pal of Diane’s, revealed that she saw the actress “two or three weeks” before her death and was “stunned” over Diane’s condition.

“She had lost so much weight,” Sager told People, adding that Diane “was very thin.”
