4 suspects arrested after shooting at Mississippi homecoming

Four people have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that broke out during homecoming celebrations in the Mississippi Delta region, officials said.

Teviyon Powell, 29, William Bryant, 29, and Morgan Lattimore, 25, are each facing a count of capital murder related to the gunfire, which left six people dead and nearly a dozen others wounded. Latoya Powell, 44, was also hit with a charge of attempted murder in the case, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Jackson Field Office confirmed to CBS News.

“Other arrests are pending as this investigation continues,” the spokesperson added without providing further details.

The mass shooting unfolded in Leland around midnight on Saturday, just hours after the local football team faced off against Charleston High School on Friday night. Officials said a large group of people had gathered near the city’s Main Street prior to the early-morning violence.

Four people were pronounced dead on the scene and two more later died at a hospital. None of the victims have been identified, but they include two 18-year-olds, USA Today reported.

Authorities have not yet provided a possible motive for the shooting in Leland, but the FBI said the gunfire appears to have been “sparked by a disagreement among several individuals,” according to the Mississippi Clarion Ledger.

Leland is a small town in Washington County located about 120 miles outside the capital of Jackson near the Arkansas border. It has a population of about 4,000 people.
