This won’t be “Fun.”
The Format — led by Nate Ruess who also fronted Fun. aka the group that brought the world “We Are Young” from 2008-15 — just announced their first official nationwide tour since 2007.
They’ll be supported by special guests Ben Kweller, Phantom Planet, Adult Mom, Limbeck and Piebald on select dates.
Their upcoming 14-concert jaunt, which comes in support of their forthcoming third studio album “Boycott Heaven,” will take place at music halls, theaters, auditoriums, ballrooms and clubs all over North America from late March through mid-April.
As of now, there’s no New York date in the books; based on our findings, the closest the indie vets get to the Big Apple is when they play Philadelphia’s Franklin Music Hall on Saturday, March 28.
However, it should be noted that prior to this forthcoming run, Ruess and Sam Means played a handful of gigs in their native Arizona (including one at the annual State Fair from their childhood) and NYC’s Beacon Theatre this fall.
At the second of their two Beacon Theatre concerts, the duo performed 18 songs from their back catalog including fan favorites “The First Single (You Know Me),” “On Your Porch,” “She Doesn’t Get It,” “Dog Problems” and “Oceans” according to Set List FM.
Based on our findings, no Fun. songs made the cut.
Still, the fans were ecstatic about the band being back together for the first time in 18 years.
“Every song felt like a shared memory brought to life,” Atwood Magazine gushed in an emphatic review of the first night of the two-show Beacon residency. “‘Wait, Wait, Wait’ exploded with joy, ‘Pick Me Up’ rang out with rousing resilience, ‘Dog Problems’ swept through the theatre like a collective, dramatic exhale. And when ‘The First Single (You Know Me)’ hit, the air turned raw and self-aware, every lyric a reminder of why this band still means so much to so many.”

The Format new music
Ahead of the Jan. 23, 2026 release of their third studio album “Boycott Heaven,” The Format dropped the lead single “Holy Roller.”
Originally debuted on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” the angsty pop anthem is an emotional, slow build that begins with the cutting opening salvo “I’d fake my death/if it weren’t such a mess” before erupting into an impassioned singalong plea, announcing Ruess and Means are back in a big way.
If you’d like to hear “Holy Roller,” don’t waste all your time praying for a sign as Ruess sings. You can find the fist-pumping, mini-symphony here.
