Marc Maron blames Jon Stewart feud on jealousy

Podcasting pioneer and comedian Marc Maron opened up on his long-running rivalry with Jon Stewart.

“Jon never did anything to me,” the 61-year-old comic told Esquire. “I was just jealous.”

Maron confessed in an interview published Thursday that he and Stewart are roughly the same age and have similar qualities, but the “smart, cute Jewish guy” was better able to harness and capitalize on his talents.

“I remember when he did the MTV show and then he had the talk show and he had me on, but my envy of him was always so — I would just s–t on him, and to his face, like, ‘Who the f— do you think you are?’” Maron claimed.

He said there was a point where the 62-year-old “The Daily Show” host seemed to be everywhere.

“For some reason, I saw him as like, ‘If I could only have my s–t together I could be more like that guy,’” Maron said.

Maron said during a July taping of the PBS “Wild Card” podcast that he once tried talking Stewart into hashing out their differences on the air, but it didn’t work out.

“I’m not doing that,” Stewart allegedly replied in a phone call. “Whatever you’re doing… there’s no love here.”

Maron claimed during that PBS interview “He does not particularly like me.”

The New Jersey native announced in June he was stepping away from his “WTF with Marc Maron” show following a 16-year run that produced nearly 1,700 podcasts. His final show aired Monday with a visit from former President Barack Obama.
