‘Yellowstone’ creator Taylor Sheridan heading to NBCUniversal: report

He’s saddling up and riding away.

“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan is leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Post reached out to reps for Paramount and NBCUniversal for comment.

Sheridan, 55, is Paramount’s crown jewel, and he’s one of the hottest commodities on the current TV landscape.

In addition to creating “Yellowstone” – and making waves for a rumored feud with star Kevin Costner – he also presides over several other star-studded Paramount shows.

He had “Yellowstone” spinoffs “1923” starring Sam Elliott, “1883,” starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, “Tulsa King” starring Sylvester Stallone,” “Mayor of Kingstown” starring Jeremy Renner, “Special Ops: Lioness” starring Zoe Saldana, and “Landman” starring Billy Bob Thornton.

Paramount still owns the work that Sheridan created for them, so shows such as “Tulsa King” and “Mayor of Kingstown” will not migrate over to NBC, and neither will future shows in the “Yellowstone” world such as the rumored “6666” ranch spinoff.

His TV deal with Paramount doesn’t officially end until 2028, but his time at NBC begins with a film deal going into effect in 2026, according to the report.

Sheridan is among the ranks of Hollywood elite who left Tinseltown, as he lives on a ranch in Texas.

“I left LA the second I could get out,” he told Cowboys & Indians Magazine in 2020.

“My wife’s from up in Wyoming, and my mother lives up there, so we moved there for a number of years, until I finally convinced her to come try my home state,” he added.

His wife is actress Nicole Muirbrook, 42. They welcomed son Gus, 15, in 2010, and tied the knot in 2013.

Sheridan began his career an actor, appearing in shows like “Veronica Mars” and “Sons of Anarchy.”

“I was a fair actor, but that’s all I was ever going to be,” Sheridan told THR in a 2023 profile. “But the first thing I ever wrote [the pilot for ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ in 2011] got me meetings at every major network, at every agency. I had multiple people trying to buy it.”

Networks wanted a more seasoned showrunner, he said, and Sheridan wanted to do it himself. So, at the time, he put it on the back burner.

His first movie screenplay, 2015’s “Sicario” starring Emily Blunt, earned several Oscar nominations and his next film, 2016’s “Hell or High Water,” earned him a “best original screenplay” nod. He also wrote and directed the 2017 movie “Wind River,” starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, which won an award at Cannes.

He has an unusual writing style, as he doesn’t use a writers room.

“I won’t compromise … if I have to check in creatively with others for a story I’ve wholly built in my brain, that would probably be the end of me telling TV stories,” he explained.

Sheridan didn’t completely leave the acting world behind, however, as he appeared in “Yellowstone” as the character Travis. The character wasn’t popular among the show’s fans.

“Some day I hope to find someone that loves me half as much as Taylor Sheridan loves himself. These final episodes of #yellowstone are so centered on him it’s crazy and cringe at the same time,” one viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

His reported departure is a major loss for Paramount, although they’ve still got several heavyweights, as they scored a deal with “Stranger Things” creators “The Duffer Brothers” and “South Park.”
