Passengers witness bloodbath as plane hits a flock of birds

A passenger jet was bathed in blood after it hit a flock of birds while flying out of Algiers over the weekend.

Video shows a plane identified by Air Live as a Saudia Boeing 777-300 plowing through the birds as it began its ascent Saturday

The airliner’s nose, front fuselage, landing gear, wheel wells and wings were reportedly impacted by the collision. The flight crew opted to continue to its destination in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the plane landed safely.

No injuries were reported.

One aviation site that posted video of what appeared to be feathers flying and blood spattering called the collision “awful.”

Still photos of the plane showed what appeared to be blood splashed all over the nose of the plane and on its underbelly.

The Federal Aviation Administration finds that bird strikes are not uncommon for pilots. Nearly 20,000 strikes were reported at U.S. airports in 2023. U.S. carriers reported more than 230 strikes at 92 airports in 55 countries foreign countries that same year.

One of the most talked about air strikes to happen over New York City occurred in January 2009 when Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger safely landed a passenger plane carrying 155 people in the Hudson River after that U.S. Airways flight struck a flock of Canadian geese shortly after departing from LaGuardia Airport.

Tom Hanks played Sullenberger in a 2016 film about the incident called “Sully.”
