A suspect has been arrested for murdering his girlfriend, and then dumping her body on a golf course at a ritzy country club in New Jersey, officials announced.
Andres Calvachi-Paz admitted to detectives that he strangled his 28-year-old girlfriend Dayana Chisaguano Maleza during an argument sparked by her efforts to end their relationship, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. He is now facing charges of first-degree murder, second-degree disturbing human remains and third-degree theft in connection with her death, NJ Advance Media reported.
Maleza’s body was found by a worker at the Cedar Hill Golf Course on Walnut Street the morning of October 7. He was chasing off deer around 8:45 a.m. when he smelled a foul odor that he followed to a small wooded area, where he made the grisly discovery.
Authorities said Calvachi-Paz placed Maleza’s body in his car and drove around for several hours after the fight inside their Newark apartment before dumping the remains at the “premier members-only golf and country club” in Livingston.
Afterwards, Calvachi-Paz attempted to carry out a scheme to make it appear Maleza was still alive, which included sending out messages from her cell phone after she was killed, officials said.
Few other details have been provided, including for how long the victim was dead before he body was discovered. Authorities previously said it appeared she was murdered several days before her remains were found.
