NY Daily News, union reach tentative contract agreement

The Daily News and its unionized employees represented by the NewsGuild of NY,  have reached agreement on a tentative two-year contract after more than three years of negotiations.

The deal, which still requires ratification by members of the Daily News Union, includes wage increases, additional personal time, health insurance benefits for both full-time and part-time employees, and other improvements.

“We are pleased we have gotten to this point and look forward to the upcoming ratification vote,” said Andrew Julien, the Daily News’ executive editor.

“The writers, editors, photographers and others who make the Daily News an indispensable part of our readers’ lives will continue doing what we do best — telling the stories that define New York.”

Julien noted that both sides put a good deal of work into getting to this point and said the managers and employees will continue to work together toward a common goal of serving our readers.

The contract is the first for the management of the News and the Daily News Union.
