Max Fried wins first Gold Glove with Yankees

Max Fried added to his trophy case on Sunday night, as the Yankees’ ace won an American League Gold Glove Award for his stellar defense on the mound.

Fried led all pitchers with 10 Defensive Runs saved in 2025, earning the former Brave his first Gold Glove with the Yankees and the fourth of his career. Fried also led all pitchers with 39 assists while limiting himself to four errors.

In addition to his strong defense, Fried went 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA over a career-high 195.1 innings in his first season with the Yankees. While he disappointed in the postseason — he gave up seven earned runs over three innings to the Blue Jays in Game 2 of the ALDS — Fried put together a regular season worthy of down-ballot Cy Young votes after signing an eight-year, $218 million contract over the offseason.

Fried was not the Yankees’ only Gold Glove finalist, as Ryan McMahon was a candidate for the National League’s third base award after being traded from the Rockies on July 25.

Ke’Bryan Hayes, who split his season between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, beat McMahon out for the award after leading his hot corner contemporaries with 19 Defensive Runs Saved, 22 Outs Above Average and a Fielding Run Value of 17.

McMahon ranked fifth in DRS (10), fourth in OAA (6) and third in FRV (7). A stabilizing force at third for the Yankees after they experienced some musical chairs at the position over the first few months of the season, McMahon totaled seven DRS, three OAA and an FRV of two with the Bombers.

He made four errors with the Yankees and 10 overall.
