A College of Charleston student from New Jersey has been missing since Halloween, according to the city’s police.
Owen Tillman Kenney, 19, of Red Bank, was last seen by friends around 2 a.m. on Oct. 31 in the area of King Street and Burns Lane, the Charleston Police Department initially said.
In a subsequent update, they confirmed he was later seen on surveillance video walking alone onto the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway shortly after 3 a.m.
“His cellphone’s last recorded location was also on the Ravenel Bridge around that same time,” Charleston police said Tuesday.
“He was minutes from his house but never made it home,” his family wrote in a Facebook post.
Kenney is described as white, 6-foot-1 and 155 pounds with light brown hair and blue eyes. He also has tattoos on his right forearm, left shoulder, left shin and knee, his family said.
He was last seen by friends wearing a green-and-white Boston Celtics uniform, but police said Tuesday there was video from early Friday morning showing Kenney near the bridge “wearing a black hooded jacket, light-colored pants and black Nike sneakers with white soles.”
Police said the search has included K9 units, drones and an underwater recovery team, but has so far turned up no sign of Kenney.
The College of Charleston Department of Public Safety said it was collaborating with police and “working diligently” to share any information that may be helpful in the search.
“At this time, there is no reason to believe that there is any danger to the campus community in relation to this case,” the school said in a statement.
The FBI and New Jersey State Police are also assisting in the investigation.
In a Facebook post including several photos, Red Bank Catholic High School, where Kenney graduated from in 2024, asked the public to “pray for his safe return.”
