Yankees tab area native Dan Fiorito for first base coach job

The vacancy on Aaron Boone’s big league staff has been filled.

The Yankees have promoted Dan Fiorito to the role of first base coach, according to multiple reports. Fiorito, most recently the organization’s minor league outfield and infield coordinator, will replace Travis Chapman, whose contract was not renewed.

Chapman also served as the Yankees’ infield coach. Fiorito is expected to do the same.

The New York Post first reported Fiorito’s promotion.

A Yonkers native who attended Fordham Prep in the Bronx and Manhattanville College in Purchase, Fiorito played in the Yankees’ minor league system from 2013-2016. The 35-year-old manned every infield position and made it up to Triple-A before becoming a coach.

Fiorito managed the Yankees’ High-A affiliate in 2021 and their Double-A affiliate in 2022. Anthony Volpe, who frequently worked on his defense with Chapman before games, was on both of those teams.

Fiorito also managed Austin Wells and Jasson Domínguez in the minors.

Fiorito is not the first infusion of player development personnel the Yankees’ big league coaching staff has received this offseason, as the team also promoted Jake Hirst from minor league hitting coordinator to assistant hitting coach.

Hirst, who replaced Pat Roessler, previously worked with Volpe, Wells, Domínguez and Ben Rice in the minors.

The Yankees also decided against renewing the contract of longtime bullpen coach Mike Harkey this offseason and brought back Desi Druschel, who previously worked as the Bombers’ assistant pitching coach before filling the same job for the Mets this past season. Either Druschel or Preston Claiborne, who took over as assistant pitching coach in 2025, is expected to be the new bullpen coach.

Down-Ballot ROY Votes

With A’s first baseman Nick Kurtz winning the American League’s Rookie of the Year Award on Monday, two Yankees received some down-ballot votes.

Will Warren, who recorded a 4.44 ERA while tying the major league lead with 33 starts, finished eighth with a third-place vote and a fourth-place vote. Domínguez placed 15th after getting a fifth-place vote.
