NJ woman bites, spits at officer’s face during arrest

A 27-year-old New Jersey woman resisted arrest at a Wayne Township hotel by kicking, biting and spitting at an officer’s face, officials said Thursday.

Galaxy Douglas, of Parsippany, was seated in a vehicle parked at the Quality Inn on Route 46 early Tuesday evening when two patrolling officers recognized her from a previous arrest.

After checking police records, the two Wayne police officers found that Douglas had multiple active criminal warrants, Det. Capt. Dan Daly said in a news release.

When they told her she was under arrest on the outstanding warrants, Douglas reportedly became argumentative and told them she would not allow it.

As efforts to de-escalate the situation failed, Douglas “became more hostile and refused to engage further with the officers,” Daly said.

The wild interaction turned physical as the two officers attempted to forcefully remove her from the vehicle, and she began to kick the two men, while refusing to let go of the steering wheel.

When she was finally out of the car and moved into a patrol car, Douglas bit one of the officers on the arm and spat at the other’s face, according to Daly.

Douglas, who continued “spitting wildly and screaming” at police headquarters, was eventually transported to a hospital for evaluation — but first had to be “physically extracted [from her cell] by multiple officers,” Daly said.

Following her medical evaluation, Douglas was booked into the Passaic County Jail intake hub on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and throwing bodily fluids at law enforcement.

Officer Harrison Kirby, who was bitten on the arm, was also taken to a medical facility for treatment, Daly said.
