A man was fatally shot early Monday in Brooklyn.
Officers rushed to the scene around 5:03 a.m. at 50th St. and Third Ave in Sunset Park where the 31-year-old victim was blasted in the chest and back, cops said.
EMS transported the victim to NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn where he died.
No arrests have been made in the incident.
In northern Brooklyn, where the victim was killed, murders are down 26% so far in 2025, with 34 to date. In 2024, there were a total of 46 murders, according to NYPD crime stats.
The murder came less than an hour before a police-involved shooting, also in Brooklyn. Around 6 a.m., responding officers found Leroy Wallace, 41, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest on the sidewalk near Hegeman Ave. and Thomas S. Boyland St. in Brownsville. Wallace was shot inside his apartment building, then stumbled outside and collapsed.
Around two hours later, Officer Sharjeel Waris, 25, while guarding a shell casing as evidence in the Brownsville building’s vestibule, was shot in the left side of his face by the suspected killer. The gunman suddenly opened his first-floor apartment door and fired a shotgun loaded with birdshot at close range, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.
Waris returned fire, killing the gunman. The officer’s gunshot wound was minor and he was later released from Brookdale Hospital.
