Cops have released photos of a woman who is being sought in connection with the shooting death of a man who was dumped behind a Bronx hospital.
The suspect, described as between 20 and 25 years old, sporting long red hair, a tattoo on her right forearm and a black crop top, fled the scene after Jontay Davis, 21, was shot twice in the head inside a vehicle around 2 a.m. on Sept. 2, cops said. Police found Davis behind St. Barnabas Hospital and rushed him inside but he could not be saved, cops said.
Xavier Kearney, 23, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon Monday in connection with Davis’s shooting. He was ordered held without bail Tuesday at his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
On Sept. 11, nine days after the shooting, cops nabbed Desean Edwards, 22, who was also ordered held without bail after being charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Kearney lives in Soundview, in the Bronx, and Edwards lives in Flatbush, Brooklyn, cops said.
The two of them, along with the female suspect, were in possession of two firearms, according to court documents. It remains unclear who actually was the shooter.
The victim’s grief-stricken mother said Davis had just graduated high school and wanted to be a mechanic.
“He was a beautiful child,” she said.
Davis’ older sister created a GoFundMe to cover his funeral expenses.
Her brother, she wrote, was “left for dead at the back of St. Barnabas Hospital, discarded as if he were nothing.”
“The pain and shock of losing him in such a heartbreaking and cruel way is something our family will carry forever,” she said.
“Jontay was only 21 years old, full of life, dreams, and love for the people around him. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend who deserved so much more time here with us. Jontay also lived with autism, which gave him a unique and beautiful way of seeing the world,” she wrote. “He touched everyone he met with his kindness, his big heart, and his special spirit.”
